Hello. I'm the voice you'll hear in GodHelm. This is just a short introduction, so you can hear how I sound. GodHelm is being built to help you practise responding differently to fear, worry, and familiar patterns, at your own pace. In a personalized session, you'll answer me out loud, or by tapping an answer. You choose what to share and when to stop. This preview doesn't listen or respond. Thank you for listening.
Voice synthesized with Piper/alba. Audio credits.
Train a different response. At your own pace.
A worry that keeps returning. An automatic reaction you want to understand. Work that stays on your mind. GodHelm is being built as a space for adults to practise attention and explore how they respond—not to force a feeling or erase difficult emotions. You choose the goal, what to share, and when to stop.
What happens in a session?
The first session takes about 20 minutes, later ones 10 to 14. The guide checks one safety question, learns how you respond to hypnosis, turns your goal into three short lines, guides you in, works on your goal in a place you choose, and brings you fully back.
-
1Find out how you respond
A spoken Hypnotic Induction Profile, first session only: look up, close your eyes, let one hand float, say what you noticed. Every session after is tuned to it.
-
2Say it in your words
Out loud, with your eyes closed if you like. The guide turns it into three lines in Spiegel's form: what you are for, never what you must not do. You can change them.
-
3Come back, and see what shifted
The session ends only when you say your head is clear. You rate your goal before and after, and the next session starts from what worked.
Example session. Interface illustration, not a user result. The after-work goal, suggested lines and ratings are examples, not measured outcomes.
Your place, in your own words
The guide asks where you would like to float, then one question about what you see, hear or feel there. It builds the place from your answer, by voice, while your eyes are closed. Nothing on the screen asks for your attention.
On screen the guide is a small light that glows with its voice, and opens a ring when it hears you. It speaks in subtitles too, and shows what it heard you say, so you know you were understood.
The 20-second exercise you take home
One, look up. Two, close your eyes and breathe in. Three, breathe out, and let a hand float. Then say your three lines to yourself. Then three, two, one, and open your eyes.
Built on Spiegel's method
The session follows the clinical approach of Herbert and David Spiegel in Trance and Treatment: Clinical Uses of Hypnosis. David Spiegel is a psychiatrist at Stanford University.
Its core is the Hypnotic Induction Profile: you roll your eyes up, close them and let one hand float, then say how it felt. The answers give a score from 0 to 10. People who score low get more explanation and practice; people who score high get more imagery. GodHelm App does the same, and teaches Spiegel's 20-second self-hypnosis to use during the day.
GodHelm App is independent. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to David Spiegel, Stanford University or Reveri. We follow the published method and cite it.
Does hypnosis work?
Published research on hypnosis includes trials for anxiety and pain, but it does not establish that GodHelm works. Across 17 trials, hypnosis reduced anxiety compared with control conditions (d = 0.79). Evidence for sleep is mixed and for focus is thin. GodHelm and its proposed benefits have not been clinically validated.
| Anxiety | 0.79 | Valentine 2019, 17 trials |
|---|---|---|
| Pain | 0.54–0.76 | Thompson 2019, 85 trials |
| Added to CBT | ≥ 0.53 | Kirsch 1995 |
| Sleep | mixed | Chamine 2018, 24 studies |
| Focus | thin | No strong study yet |
What GodHelm App is, and what it isn't
It isn't Dr. Spiegel
It follows his published method. The guide is an AI, not a clinician. Your answers go to an AI model provider to write replies; your text conversations, goals and session summaries are kept in your account, which you can delete any time. How your data is used.
It isn't treatment
It is a wellbeing practice, not a diagnosis, therapy or a substitute for care. If you are in crisis, contact local emergency services or a crisis line.
It asks one safety question first
If you have had seizures, psychosis or a dissociative condition, or are in crisis, you get breathing and relaxation only, with no hypnosis.
You can ask to stop
The session is designed to ground you and count you out when you say stop or I'm scared. The stop and wake-up lines are recorded in advance, so they play even if the connection drops. It does not use age regression.
It doesn't work the same for everyone
How people respond varies. That is why the first session measures it, and every session after is tuned to you.
It's an early beta
Sessions are free, with daily limits, and the app is still changing. It runs in your browser; no purchase of the separate GodHelm headset is required.
Part of Kalki
GodHelm is the Human Mind Liberation Agent, arm 01 of Kalki. Its mission is to give potentially eight billion people greater voluntary control over their emotional lives. The wider vision spans mental training, AI guidance, VR and neurotechnology, while preserving individual autonomy. This browser app is one step toward that vision—not evidence that its ultimate goals have been achieved.
Questions
Do I need a headset or an account to try the preview?
No. The free voice preview plays in your browser without an account, microphone or headset. It is a prerecorded introduction, not a complete hypnosis session or a personalized conversation. The browser app will not require the separate GodHelm hardware.
What does “more choice in how you feel” mean?
It is the direction of the project, not a promise that emotions can be switched on or off. GodHelm is being built to support voluntary practice in attention and how you respond to feelings. You choose your goal and pace; difficult feelings are not a personal failure. The app has not been clinically validated.
Is this a sleep app?
No. GodHelm is being developed for voluntary mental training and self-hypnosis, not as a drift-to-sleep recording. The current session includes a wake-up and a check that you feel clear. GodHelm is a wellbeing practice, not a treatment for insomnia or another condition.
Is hypnosis real?
Yes. Hypnosis is a state of focused, absorbed attention in which suggestions take hold more easily, like being so absorbed in a film that the room fades. It is studied in clinical trials: meta-analyses find it helps with anxiety and pain, with mixed results for sleep.
Can anyone be hypnotized?
Most people respond to some degree, and people differ in how much. A short test called the Hypnotic Induction Profile measures it. In the largest study of digital hypnosis, people with higher scores gained more, but people with low scores still benefited (Tran et al. 2025).
What is the Hypnotic Induction Profile?
The Hypnotic Induction Profile (HIP) is a short test developed by Herbert and David Spiegel. You look up, close your eyes, let one hand float, and then report how it felt. It is scored 0 to 10: below 4 is low, 4 to 6 is middle, 7 and above is high. GodHelm App uses the score to choose how it guides you.
What is the difference between hypnosis and meditation?
Meditation usually trains open, non-judging attention with no particular goal. Hypnosis narrows attention and uses suggestion and imagery to move toward a change you chose, such as less fear before flying. Both can calm the body. GodHelm App offers hypnosis, guided by voice.
Can I get stuck in hypnosis?
No. Hypnosis is attention, and attention always returns; at worst you would drift into ordinary sleep and wake normally. GodHelm App still ends every session with a full wake-up count and keeps going until you say your head is clear.
Will I lose control?
No. Spiegel's view is that all hypnosis is really self-hypnosis: the guide shows the way, and you decide whether to follow. You can say stop at any moment, and GodHelm App brings you out gently.
Is GodHelm App a medical treatment?
No. GodHelm App is a wellbeing practice, not a diagnosis, therapy or substitute for medical or psychological care. If you are in crisis, contact local emergency services or a crisis line.
Can I use GodHelm App now?
Yes, as an early beta. Hear the free voice preview without an account, or create a free account to start a personalized session in your browser. Sessions have daily limits while we test, and the app is still changing.
